A chiropractic adjustment is a therapeutic treatment technique used by a licensed chiropractor. The physician uses their hands along with special instruments to manipulate joints throughout the patient’s body. Sometime people also refer to it as spinal manipulation. A chiropractic adjustment can help correct your body’s alignment and reduce pain. These manipulations are common for people to receive and help them fix many musculoskeletal and other heath issues.

Chiropractic Adjustments can help with:

  • Arthritis
  • Chronic headaches
  • Whiplash
  • Sciatica
  • Joint Pain
  • Low Back Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Hip Issues
  • Posture

What to Expect

During an adjustment, Dr. Gilmore will offer treatment that is unique to meet your needs. You will be asked to lie face down on a chiropractic table that allows different parts of your body to lift slightly higher than the rest, which will help him apply pressure to a specific area. He will use his hands and a series of small instruments to apply pressure and stretch the joints ever so slightly to help restore their normal range of motion. This can realign your vertebrae, releasing trapped gas and taking pressure off of your nerves.

Many times before your adjustment we will also have our therapist perform therapy to loosen up your muscles so you get the most out of your chiropractic adjustment. Many people believe that it will hurt when they hear the popping but for most people it is painless. The popping sound is trapped gas, such as oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide being released from the joint. After your appointment, Dr. Gilmore may recommend stretching exercises for you to do at home to help extend the benefits of your treatment. These are very important for you to follow to keep yourself pain-free. A chiropractic adjustment is usually not a one-time fix. It is most beneficial when utilized as an important part of a multi-step process.

You have nothing to fear about scheduling an adjustment with Gilmore Chiropractic. We will walk you through the entire process and create a plan specific for your needs!
